Distribution

Distribution is the way in which something is shared out among a group or spread over an area. The promotion (also referred to as distribution) of company's film to the general public is the known job that a distribution company handles. Marketing is something in regards to the specific types of activities a company does to facilitate the sale of a product/service. A business may use a variety of techniques to promote their new film in any way possible. One example of said marketing ideas is merchandising. Merchandising is where a company sells its branded items in order to gain more promotion for the specific film. A company may also use a film festival or even cross promotion. This is basically another type of marketing idea in which the promotion of a similar product is directed at the customers of another product.

An innumerable amount things happens during the distribution stage of a film. These said may range from producer getting the legal rights in order to film a story to the screenwriters doing their jobs and taking care of their personal responsibilities in regards to the film. After the a few other things take place and the film goes the marketing phase, the film is released for everyone to enjoy.

Wide release is usually pursued when a distributor believes a movie will be an immediate hit, on the basis of its existing fandom or a major marketing campaign. While on the other hand, platform release can be used to gauge a film's appeal. A senior media analyst with comScore states that, "A platform release takes a lot of planning. The strategy usually changes on the fly through the response of public and critics." Studies have shown that a platform release usually becomes the strategy of those with a smaller budget.

Some distribution companies that specialize in my type of film are Temple Hill Entertainment, The Weinstein Company, Miramax, etc. Based on my research so far, Temple Hill Entertainment would be just one of the distribution companies would be a good match for my type of film. Considering the fact that my film will be a romantic drama and they are one of the most popular companies who distribute these types of films. Their success rate is amazing I feel as though this is a really good company.
