Case Study

The case study wasn't as difficult as the other parts of the project. I think what kind of confused me was the way it was supposed to be structured together. For this specific portion, I decided to work on it one piece at a time each day. For example on Monday I would get the research part done and just map out I'm what order I would place everything. I completed about 2-3 rough drafts before actually starting though. I thought I was going to regret spending so much time trying to get my information together and not actually working on the case study. That actually was not a big issue for me considering that I procrastinate a lot.

For the purpose of my case study, I chose the popular film The Notebook. I chose this film because it is popular in my genre and basically all around the board. It tells a great story and I really admire the way it is structured and wanted more details about the "behind the scenes" action. There a lot of information that I did not seem to know before. One of these pieces of information was the overall budget of the film. Although I was a bit shocked at first, as I continued my research I caught note that it is actually very reasonable in relations to the past history of the film. The Notebook's budget was a total budget was $29,000,000 which is a lot of money. But also taking note of the fact that The Notebook was a published novel from 1996, it is somewhat reasonable as to why the film had such a great impact when it was released June 25, 2004.

After further research for this specific case study of The Notebook, it all started to come together as to why the budget was so huge. The film grossed a total of $115.6 million, so it's not like the budget was 'unnecessary' or a waste because of the profit that it brought back to the company. Not to mention the fact that in the United States and also Canada, when the film was premiered it grossed $13.5 million. The production company knew what audience they were specifically targeting and exactly what message they wanted to get across to their viewers.
